About Us

We are an awesome team of talented, skilled, handsome (pick any two) developers hailing from Poland; a country forgotten by some; the land of polar bears, beautiful girls and beverages with dangerously high alcohol content.

But seriously, what do we stand for?

Macoscope was born of a dream we once had; a dream of creating a great workplace, setting bold challenges and working creatively on rewarding projects, which ultimately bring real value into people’s lives. Founded by Daniel, Wojtek and Zbigniew, Macoscope is the place where we employ our skills, along with carefully chosen tools, at software development to make our dream come true.

Our Team

Wojtek Rolecki

Founder and Member of the Board

Wojtek is an experienced IT technician, who has been involved deeply in both IT and telecommunication projects. He has been in the IT business since his late high-school years, beginning with networking and setting up Linux servers for small networks and companies. He enrolled in The University of Warsaw (Comp-Sci) and at the same time, started working full-time for a local telecommunications company. During that period, Wojtek was exposed to a very interesting environment, demanding IT knowledge, programming skills and the ability to bring them together in the conservative world of telecommunications. He managed to implement many cost-effective in-house solutions, therefore reducing the amount of company expenditure. Parallel to his university duties, he has been involved in spare-time projects, often with Zbigniew, early before his involvement in blip.pl. Like Robert, he wanted to start creating Mac software since he got his first Mac (proud owner of PowerBook G4). A UNIX philosophy follower, a fast-learner, and a music lover.

Zbigniew Sobiecki

Founder and Member of the Board

Zbigniew is a veteran of the IT and Telecommunication industries. He got his first job as a teenager, writing security patches and modules for Linux kernel 2.0.x over 10 years ago. Since then, he looked for (and found) challenges in various fields - from creating custom billing and business support systems for leading Polish telcos, through performing computer security audits and penetration testing for high-profile companies and government institutions, all the way to designing and implementing microcontroller devices.

For the last few years, he has been mainly focusing on companies and projects in their early stages. In 2004, Zbigniew became the first employee and CTO of a VoIP startup, in which he single-handedly designed the voice network, implemented his own billing and accompanying systems, and also hired and trained a small IT team.

In 2007 he co-founded the leading Polish (and supposedly the largest European) microblogging platform, Blip.pl, and sold it to Gadu-Gadu S.A. (a subsidiary of Naspers, a NASDAQ-traded company).

Father of a 5-year-old geek in training.

Marcin Maciukiewicz

Senior Developer

Marcin is an experienced architect and developer. He gathered knowledge working in a wide range of projects, starting from small-scale web applications and ending on high-availability enterprise solutions. From the first line written in BASIC that he typed on a ZX Spectrum 48 in 1989, he never stopped being fascinated by computers. Always looking for better ways to solve problems, he is never limited to only one solution. His open mind is always keen on new ideas. When not working, he travels with wife around the world. Learning and understanding foreign cultures is one of Marcin’s many passions.

Robert Wijas

Clean Code Evangelist

Robert Wijas is the author of Blipman - the most popular iPhone client for the Polish microblogging service blip.pl. Since 2002 his main focus has been Enterprise Java Development, but he always has had a broad collection of technologies in his pocket by keeping an eye on what’s hot in the software industry.

He built his IT experience working in TLS Technologies, a Polish company software for telecoms. In 2008 Robert became interested in Agile Software Development and took the Certified Scrum Master Course. However his interest does not limit itself to Scrum Framework, but expands over more general aspects of Agile Values, Principles and Practices.

He truly believes that every developer should obey “clean code” rules and try to implement XP practices in his work, because that is the key to efficient and reliable software development. Therefore his business card title is Clean Code Evangelist.

Since he got his first Mac in 2006, Robert has been dreaming about building consumer products based on Apple platforms. Making this dream come true, he joined our company at the beginning of 2010.

Aside from the software world, Robert is passionate about fine art photography. He especially enjoys flipping though photo albums in a comfy chair with a glass of wine, but he also tries to explore his own creativity with a large format camera, black and white photography supplies and a wet darkroom he built in a former kitchen.
